Rosie Creek Studio owner & chief pot washer since 1985
I started taking pottery classes in high school at The Bush School in Seattle. I worked as a studio assistant making clay and glazes for the ceramic shop while taking classes at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. I graduated with a BFA from the Boston University in 1985. Before completing an MFA from Montana Sate University in 1993, I worked in Fairbanks again as a lecturer in ceramics at the UAF Art Department. While in Montana I taught classes in art appreciation, sculpture, ceramics and glaze calculation. I worked as a studio potter in Bozeman before moving to the NW and ultimately Suquamish.
I have exhibited and conducted workshops nationally . I am happy to have a home base in the Seattle area where ¾ of my family live now. I have many activities that bring enjoyment-Driving my team of horses and occasionally riding them, Knitting mittens, Gardening, Cooking and Rounding up my chickens.
It has always been my intention to make pots that people want to touch and use. I want to make your food look good and still have you enjoy washing your plate afterwards; I decorate my work on the top and bottom surfaces for that very reason. My large platters are made so you can hang them on the wall after using extending your enjoyment after the party. My decorative work draws from plant and bird forms.
I have spent the last 8 years building and developing the studio space I have today. We have a 20cf gas car kiln for medium or high temp reduction firings, a raku kiln and electric kilns for bisquing and oxidation firings. We make our own glazes from the new glaze pantry and recycle our clay in a large soldner clay mixer. In the Studio we have electric wheels, a kick wheel and a treadle wheel, 2 slab rollers and an extruder. This equipment is set up according to the current studio needs.
